my room

It's every fashionista's dream is to have a big extravagant beautiful custom made closet.

Here are some closets I lust after.

and these awesome jewelry, purse, and shoe displays

*All pictures were taken from PINTREST*

This all leads to me cleaning and organizing my closet and bathroom...
It was about time that I cleaned out my room back in Texas.
It was so cluttered and disorganized.

Just a side note... my closet does not in any way simulate any one of these closets.  It's just your average closet... unfortunately

FIRST PROJECT
This is my room, all nice and clean...
I started with these two storage cabinets I had under my desk.  They were just full of junk.
I grabbed a trash bag and just trashed everything useless.
And then grabbed a big tote and threw everything I thought I might need in there.
After 2 hours of sifting through old memories all I had left was in one bag!

As of the cabinets... I decided to donate them, since they did not match the interior design of the room anyways.
I'm in the process of ordering these baskets to store the rest of the junk I had left over.

SECOND PROJECT
was to fix up my bath room.
I used to have this large dark wood jewelry armoire, that was very useful, but wasn't so "Cote de Texas" enough for my mother.  So I cleaned it out, kept all the good jewelry and donated all the stupid Claire's jewelry I've bought over the past 10 years.

(It's always so funny when your cleaning things out and rediscovering old memories.)

I also had this PB Teen pink make up stand, that had multiple baskets that swiveled around.  A very handy piece, but too young and girly for my taste.
Once again I threw away all the old makeup and random beauty products and donated the make up stand.

Next plan is to combine to make up and jewelry in to one storage place.
So I set out to find a perfect fitting book shelf to display my jewelry on and put my make up in baskets.
or
a vanity stand to hold my jewelry and make up in, and possibly hanging shelves for extra storage space.

I gotta say that Houston TX has UNBELIEVABLE shopping.  All different types of stores with a multitude of different styles, for any type of taste you have in interior design or fashion or art.
So I was trekking through the city visiting all the stores that my mother shops at, seeing if I could find the perfect piece to put in my bathroom.
When finally I passed by this store called BoxWoods.  Where they were having a huge moving sale.  50% off, or you offer a price and we will negotiate kind of deal.
I swerved in to the parking lot and ran into the store.  Not much was left, but low and behold there was my perfectly sized vanity for my bathroom.
An antique styled narrow vanity desk.  Priced at 1,200.... and finally marked it down to 700.
An okay good deal.

Loaded it up in my car, carried it up the stairs and placed it in my bathroom.
Found a few decorative accessories to put on top, to spruce it up.
Placed a replica antique mirror on top and v'uala a new set up.
Thank fully my mom has a great collection of decorative accessories piled up in the garage that I snatched up.

The best part about this vanity is that it has 3 storage compartments.

The middle has a deep compartment to hold make up or jewelry.
I decided to put the jewelry that I wear everyday in there.

On the sides there are two drawers that I put the rest of my jewelry in.

I bought these acrylic jewelry trays from The Container Store.

Got this cute little lamp from the Cote De Texas garage boutique, along with the wicker tray holding my makeup, the mini blue and white porcelain vase, and the two prints hanging in my bath room.

I decided to change out my shower curtains to a double shower curtain.  Bought these white and blue trellis styled curtains and white rings at Target.  The cute blue and white bath rugs are from my favorite store Home Goods.

I grabbed a basket from the garage and put some necessities inside.
toilet paper, lady products, Febreeze, and my favorite diffuser William Sonoma grape fruit.
Lastly I hung up these two pictures to bring more character to the bathroom.

THIRD PROJECT
to clean out my closet and rearrange the set up.

I should've taken before an after pictures, because the transformation is awesome!

The way I clean out my closet is to pick an area to start, and just throw all the things you haven't worn in the past 2 years away-- then decide what you will do with it either donate, give it away, or sell it.
Then just keep going, section by section.

Once I finally wiped out my whole entire closet clean... literally.
I decided to organize my collection of boxes I keep above.
So I categorized them by designer and just stacked them up...

My one weakness is shoes... I have a lot of shoes and I can never get rid of them, so I had to find a good storage spot for them.
I decided that I would just find a small portable shelving unit.  So I grabbed these white wired stands that can stack up on top of each other, from The Container Store.
And placed them on the side of my closet with the most height.

A while ago my mom hired a closet organizer who put these great peg boards on the empty walls of my closet, so I could hang up my purses, hats, scarves, and whatever I wanted.  Perfect idea, takes up no space at all and is totally out of the way.  Best thing I've ever had done to my closet.

Final part was hanging up all my clothes, which took longer than I thought.
My one OCD closet organizing thing is I have to have all black hangers, everything is organized into categories and designers.

FINAL PRODUCT
Welcome to my closet!

The best picture I could get of my closet

My box collection

The right peg wall.  it's a pretty tall wall I needed to take two pictures!

Shirts

Skirts and dresses... jeans are folded up on middle shelf.

This is the long hanging section on the left of my closet.  all these clothes are clothes that I kept from the clean out.

Baskets of clutches and accessories, threw a couple of purses on top.

Left peg wall.  scarves and belts

I have a dresser on the right, so on top of it I stacked up these 3 baskets for socks and undergarments

These are the rest of my shoes.  the rack is under the long hanging section on the left and the boots are hidden behind the shirts section.

that's all!

stay tuned for an update on my dream summer job!

5/17/12

hot or not?

Trends come and go.
Some trends are cute and stick, but most of the time they only work temporarily.

The most important part about trends is knowing what is going to be next.
The best way to know what the next trend is to read magazines, fashionista blogs, and go on all different types of websites.

In the fashion world there is no limit.
But in the real world, it's a little difficult to wear these....
Not so realistic...

But there is a way to wear extreme trendy pieces in your everyday wardrobe.

I decided to pick 10 trends that I like... that you might be on the fence about... and give a couple of tips on how you can wear them.

1.  NEON
extreme bold colors used to freak me out.  i tend to like neutrals and more toned down colors.  so when this trend came around, it took me some getting used to.  i decided that i would get some pieces that i  REALLY loved and were easy to work with.
i suggest buying some skinny jeans.

i suggest using neon as an accent color.  like pairing it with a stripe dress or top. or even an all white outfit.

2.  NEON JEWELRY
this trend ties in with no. 1.  you might've seen it on pintrest and tumblr, these elaborate bright crystal necklaces.

these necklaces can be worn everyday, for a night out, or an event.  it's up to you to decided how far your willing to go with it.

3.  PASTELS
this trend is very similar to the NEON no.1 trend, but you have a lot more leeway with it. you can have more fun with it.  you can wear pastel on pastel or just wear one piece.
mint is a cute pastel color that looks great with anything and on anyone.
Jcrew chino shorts, every woman should have at least the basics.  the CHINO SHORT doesn't get more basic.
but they have awesome colors too.
you can wear these pastel shorts with a black button down and heels to go out with the girls
or these shorts with a tee and ballet flats

4.  TEXTURE
by texture i mean...  lace, bold prints- chevron, stripes, polkadots, sequins... anything besides solid.  it's definitely a hot trend. if you dare mix and match TEXTURE, thats even more hot!
i've seen this dress all over pintrest and tumblr for the past few months and finally Lilly Pulitzer comes out with it! and they have a couple of cute colors too.

Tobi always has great bold patterns that are trendy.

sabo skirt

5.  HATS
hats are always in, they are a necessity at times.  but this summer the hat trend has taken off.  the bigger the better.  the edgier the trendier.
pair a straw fedora with flare jeans and a peasant blouse.
a maxi dress or skirt goes well with a panama or big floppy hat

it's quite obvious that all hats are made for the day light, but at night fedora is a great accessory

6.  SCARF TREND
there must be a special name for this trend, but for now i call it the scarf trend.  a better description would be a scarf print,  on dresses or shirts.

ESTHER BOUTIQUE is a great hidden treasure for me, i love everything!

the scarf pattern gives a richness to your ensemble.  it could be a repeat offender, meaning that it might be a trend you could see later on possibly in a different season.
the first two dress is a great example on how to do this trend for summer.
and the last two show great colors for fall and winter.

7.  ORANGE AND HOT PINK
orange and hot pink are extremely bold and loud colors. they look even better together.  they are bright and fun and everyone's eyes will gravitate to you.

you would never guess where i found this one... CAVENDERS the boot store!! so cute

GAP has GREAT things right now... a must stop to shop store.

TOP SHOP has some HOT hot pink dresses.  definitely going out dresses.
these two colors are fun colors to add to your wardrobe.  you can always count on a fun and flirty hot pink or orange dress.

8.  NUDE SHOE, with everything
maybe to some people this isn't considered a trend, it's a preference.  but i think that this should be considered a trend. up until a year ago i never owned a nude pair of shoes ever.  and occasionally i would wear them, with a lighter toned outfit.  but now i wear nude colored shoes all the time with any color toned outfit.  theres something sexy about a great nude pump, it makes your legs look longer.

all shoes are either Christian Louboutin, Jimmy Choo, or DVF

here's an example of day and night dresses that go with nude shoes
9.  BODY JEWELRY
the only way to explain the trend is to show pictures..

only a few celebs have rocked this boho chic head dress.  its a cute accessory to add to the right outfit.

there are leg chains, back chains

arm chains

hand chains and heres a different type of head chain

this girl is casually wearing the chain and it looks cute and understated. not too much.

this girl is wearing a flowy shirt with a back chain, this is great for going out.
i would wear a head chain with a cute little dress and heels for a club night.

10.  NAIL ART
the trend with nail art is putting cute geometric patterns on your nails.  not those crystal flowers that you got on a whim when you were 13.  i'm talkin about chevron, stripes, aztec.

gold and silver stripes

color block/chevron

accent nail

aztec

there you have it my list of summer trends!

stay tuned, i will be telling yall about my summer internship and my latest accomplishment... cleaning and sprucing up my room back in Texas!!!
